FAQ'sSo, what exactly is rVibe and what does it do?In a nutshell, rVibe is a free software application that one uses to organize the music on his/her computer, discover and download new music, and share music with your friends. And by the way, when a friend downloads a song directly from your musical library, you get a cash reward. Is it like iTunes, Napster or Yahoo Music? Some things are similar, but there are a lot of differences. With iTunes, you install it, browse the iTunes store, and buy music. With Napster and Yahoo, you install it, pay a monthly fee, and rent music (you can also pay more to buy). With rVibe, you install it, find music with from friends (or get recommendations), buy music directly from them, and get rewards when someone downloads from you. Think of rVibe as a legal file sharing network. Wait, I get rewards?Yes. Every time someone downloads a song from you, you get a nickel. The more songs you have on your computer and the more songs you recommend, the more money you will earn simply by being logged into the software.Rewards are given to you whether you recommend a song or not. As long as someone downloads it directly from you, the $.05 is yours. However, the more recommendations you put out there, the more likely you are to gain more rewards. If More Than One Person Reccomends a song to the community, who gets the rewards?Great question. We want everybody in the rVibe community to get an equal shot at getting a reward, so we use a special algorithm to determine who actually gets the $.05 if there is any sort of overlap. If two or more people recommend a song that you click on, whoever is your rVibe.com friend will get the reward. If both people are friends with you on the software (or both are not), it is than determined by whichever member is the closest to you (geographically speaking). If both people who recommend the song happen to be your friend and live in the same town (very unlikely!), than we will just randomly pick who gets the $.05 reward. I'm not really interested in the "nickel", you say I can donate it to charity?Absolutely! Helping others and giving back is the foundation of rVibe. Pick from one of our charity partners and keep track of the total donations. Together we can buy music in order to do some good in the world.People get music directly from me? Is that legal?Yes, it's 100% legal. You can only get licensed files from our collection of 1 million + tracks so you can never sell or download a song that is not licensed to be bought and sold in the rVibe community. Thanks to our unique filtering system, no illegal file sharing can take place within the software. However, even if a song is not licensed for sale, one can still load it into the software, listen to it in a radio style format, and buy the CD it came from (through Amazon.com).But is it safe? I don't want people browsing my computer. It's totally safe-no one browses your computer and you get to choose what songs from your computer library you want placed on the rVibe software. The information that you and all members of the rVibe community see is actually on our central server which we update from time to time to make finding and streaming music easier. The only time your computer is touched is when our server facilitates a secure download from you.You can elect not to put any songs onto the rVibe software at all. We do not make you share your music with the community. If you want, you can simply buy songs from other members and not sell any or gain rewards for yourself. So, what kind of music can I get? There is an infinite amount of music to experience — everything anyone has on their computer! From all of that selection, you may download over 1,000,000 different tracks that we currently have the license to sell. Each time we obtain more music that is available for sale, we will immediately inform the rVibe community. All the music you download is in 320 Kbps, MP3 format and DRM free!Of course, even if a song is not licensed to be sold in the software, it can still appear on the software for everyone to listen to-they just can’t download it yet. MP3 - DRM free? Does it work with my iPod?YES! Since all the tracks we sell are MP3, it will work with virtually any player, including Ipods. There are also no restrictions placed on the tracks like on iTunes, Napster, or Yahoo. Oh, and by the way, the sound quality is FAR superior to iTunes and those other services!rVibe only sells and shares MP3 files. What if I want to download the latest "top 40" track, can I get that?Right now you can't download things like that; you can however audition a portion of the track and buy the CD from us. We're working constantly to expand our download selection and you should be able to get those tracks very soon.So is this really a service for "indie" music fans?No — it's a service for finding all kinds of music through your friends’ musical libraries. Even if you can’t download a song from the rVibe software, we make it very easy for you to listen to it and direct you to a place where you can purchase it. We are working extremely hard everyday to expand the range of music that can be purchased directly on rVibe. What do you mean I can stream music? When you buy and download a track, it's yours on your computer to use how you want. However, you might not want to buy the track, or you might want to sample the whole thing just a few times. In that case you can simply "stream" it. When you stream a whole licensed song, it only costs $.03. Every time you stream a song, it reduces the price to download (to a minimum of $.78) - not bad - listen to music and reduce the price! But I can also stream my own music for free, anywhere there is a web browser?Yes - part of the free rVibe service is free streaming of your own music. When you register and leave your computer on, you can logon to the rVibe website from any other computer and listen to your whole library - for free!So what if I build up a few rewards and want to leave, can I just take my money and run?Yes and no. rVibe allows you take out as much money as you have deposited at any given time. For example, if you originally deposited $10 into your account, and now have $25, you can take out up to $10 at a time. Of course, you can take out more money as you go and try to make as much as possible. We do however charge a small processing fee (3.5%) per transaction to cover our bank costs.Ok — how do I get started?Download the free rVibe software here. Install it and register. First, put a minimum of $10 into your account, than find a friend and buy music.
