Flo Rida
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008As I was listening to the Howard Stern Show (my former boss) the other day, I heard a very interesting interview with the rapper, Flo Rida. Flo Rida’s single, “Get Low” has spent over 8 weeks as the number 1 single in the county. Aside from the regular Stern Show questions about his sex life and outlandish spending, they dove into a very interesting topic. “Get Low” is not on an album. I repeat. Flo Rida NEVER released an album. He has made millions from his single on downloads and ringtones alone. To me, this is absolutely mind boggling.
As I heard this, I couldn’t help but think about rVibe. rVibe is all about downloading songs via the software. Artists can put their singles or entire album on the software and watch as they make money by having members purchase their songs. An artist can make their entire living off of strictly selling their music on the internet. An artist does not even have to put out a hard copy of an album anymore, they can make millions from simply putting their songs on a piece of software like rVibe.
Flo Rida and his song “Get Low” is on pace to set a new standard in the music industry. Albums might one day become extinct and every song could simply premiere as a single on the internet.
