Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

From the press release:

Bethlehem, PA – December 19th, 2007:  rVibe, a community based online music download service has launched its Artist Portal.  The portal allows musicians, record labels, and distributors to register and manage their content and sell their music through the software.

According to Braydon Johnson-McCormick, founder and Managing Director of rVibe, “The rVibe Artist Portal is a big step forward in helping musicians of all kinds control their music and increase sales. By combining the rVibe social network with the ability to track sales and create advertising campaigns, the rVibe Artist Portal gives musicians a powerful instrument to help ignite their business.”

rVibe members can purchase and download near CD quality tracks, make money from their recommendations, stream music to their websites, and give their rewards to charity.

Aggregate distributors vs. direct licensing deals

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

EMII just got off the phone with EMI.  In an indication of the tide shifting in the major label space, EMI is pointing us in the direction of “aggregators” (where an aggregator is a company that has licensing deals to extend licenses to other retailers).  It’s not so much that they don’t want to do a deal - it’s that deals are slowing - and heading toward bigger players.  The reason for this is simple:  bigger player results in higher immediate revenue and greater margin.

I suspect this means two things:

  1. A consolidation of music distribution to a few leading “aggregator” companies
  2. Fewer unusual business model deals coming out

So - they are open to us, and think what we’re up to is interesting, but from a business standpoint they need more financial guarantee before moving down a direct licensing deal.

Unsigned artists-get ready to sell your music!

Friday, December 14th, 2007

We are about to launch our Artist Portal, where unsigned artists can sell their own music for whatever price they want via the software.  Artists that are not signed to labels and want to have their music heard by more people can sign up for their own page on rVibe.  They can than upload their songs onto the software, set the price for their music, and start marketing their songs!

The more they market themselves (groups, comments, recommendations) the more people will hear their music and the more money they will undoubtedly make.

In 1o years, the biggest band in the world could have gotten their start on rVibe…

the power of playlists

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

I think I speak for most when I say that playlists have come about as a result of the various ways that one can obtain music from different artists in virtually no time at all.  Because of this, the phenomenon known as the playlist has taken the 21st century music lover by storm.  Never before has organizing the musical entertainment for a social gathering, school project, business presentation, or any other event during which music is needed, been so easy.  I love that I’ll be able to see playlists put together by other rvibe users and acquire it if it suits my fancy…in a fastpaced society where everyone wants everything NOW, i think this is a great aspect of rvibe…

Playlists

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Playlists are the best ways to mange your songs and put like music together.  Everyone has playlists that they use during parties, while driving, or excercing.  On rVibe, one can download an entire playlist that another member has put together for their convenience and enjoyment.

Everyone loves listening to playlists, but it takes a long time to put together.  It’s going to be great when people can download entire playlists and not have to worry about putting it all together.
